Varanasi: Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) has achieved a significant manufacturing milestone by producing its 50th Amrit Bharat push-pull locomotive in the financial year 2026–27. The achievement highlights the Varanasi-based facility’s contribution to indigenous railway technology and the modernisation of Indian Railways.
Designed for Amrit Bharat train operations, these locomotives incorporate advanced technology and enhanced safety features. The push-pull system uses locomotives at both ends of a train, enabling smoother operations and reducing the need to reposition the locomotive when changing direction.

Key features include modern locomotive cabs, semi-automatic couplers, crashworthy design and an improved braking system.
BLW General Manager Ashutosh Pant said every locomotive manufactured at the facility represents India’s commitment to industrial self-reliance, innovation and technological excellence. He added that the production of push-pull locomotives supports the objectives of the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.

As part of the latest dispatch, locomotives numbered 45336 and 45337 have been sent to the diesel locomotive shed at Bhagat Ki Kothi in Jodhpur, under North Western Railway.
Since its establishment, BLW has manufactured 11,531 locomotives, including 3,195 electric locomotives, underscoring its contribution to the country’s railway infrastructure and domestic manufacturing capabilities.
